Book Review: "2001: A Space Oddyssey"

I took the time a while back to read a novel by classic author: Arthur C. Clarke and published by New American Library called "2001: A Space Odyssey". This book is about man's place in the universe; it's about the evolution of this race from the beginning, when man was merely a berry-eating ape, to the next step on the evolutionary chain. When I first lay eyes on the pages, I knew that this was going to be an interesting book. However, when I actually began to read it, I was awestruck. This story was a quick read, for I could never put it down, unless I needed to. And even then, I simply wanted to pull it out and continue.

This story follows a man named David Bowman. He is sent on a mission with Frank Poole, three other colleagues and a AI ship computer named HAL. They must go to Saturn, but they do not entirely know why. Once you start reading, I guarantee, you will not stop willingly. Arthur C. Clarke has created a literary masterpiece with twists turns and where the impossible becomes possible.

I do, however, know that there was a movie adaptation of this directed by Mr. Stanley Kubrick and I will not talk about it in depth for this is a book review not a movie review. I will merely say that, although Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director he and has great talent, even Mr. Kubrick's movie cannot do this book justice.

I highly recommend this book to fans of science fiction or even to philosophers. Even if one isn't a science fiction fan, he or she will still enjoy this novel. All in all I give it a 10!
